Update on West Coast Port Operations
Hard Deck Logistics notes that the Pacific Maritime Association has released a bulletin which can be found at this link: PMA-Statement-6.12.23.pdf (pmanet.org)
They generally state that yesterday at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, reportedly the ILWU resumed the practice of withholding lashers at the terminals resulting in vessels missing their scheduled departures. The Union also reportedly did not fill orders for labor from several terminal operators despite the fact they were placed properly and on time (per the PMA).
At the Ports of Seattle, following our update on Saturday that the PMA had announced that cargo operations were shut down, Hard Deck Logistics notes from our drayage contacts, as well as from reviewing port/yard gate camera footage that truck/gate traffic is active and flowing although slightly backed up throughout today. The same goes for the Ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Oakland; we note that truck/gate traffic is active although pickups and drop-offs for imports/exports and empty containers seem slightly backed up (and at certain ports even more so backed up).
The critical impact that Hard Deck Logistics is observing now is on vessel operations. There are clearly changes in vessel arrival and departure schedules that can be observed through ocean carrier EDI 315 and shipping website container tracking updates. Also, there appear to be various backlogs with the vessel queue throughout the West Coast, with a lot of varying information from the ILWU, PMA, and various news sources (many sources sharply contradict another source).
We will keep monitoring the situation.
Sincerely,
CEO Hard Deck Logistics
