Hard Deck Logistics had announced earlier last week that the ILWU Canada would be voting June 9-10th on a strike authorization for the Port of Vancouver. That vote has now been tallied with over 99% of members being in favor of the strike.
Under the terms, the earliest the strike can occur is June 24th, and if a strike occurs a strike notice would be filed before June 21st.
The Port of Vancouver is Canada’s largest port for containerized trade. This news comes at a moment when the West Coast USA has suffered much disruption due to the inability of the ILWU and PMA to come to an agreement on a final labor contract as reported widely by many sources.
Multiple Class I Railroads operate to and from the Port of Vancouver and with more disruption, railroad queues will need to be monitored carefully. A strike will only further disrupt the balance of global trade.
Sincerely,
CEO Hard Deck Logistics
