Hard Deck Logistics notes that there is progress being made between the ILWU Canada and the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA). While no long-term agreement is yet reached, there is no strike in place or planned officially, currently. The ILWU Canada issued a 72-hour strike notice to the BCMEA on the 19th indicating they would be in a legal position to return to the picket lines as of 0800 PDT on 7/22, however, the ILWU Canada has since removed the 72-hour strike notice. This means there will be no strike on Saturday.
Union leadership says it is going to recommend its members accept a tentative agreement to end the weeks-long strike at B.C. ports. The Union will try to put the terms of the deal to its membership at a stop-work meeting on Tuesday, according to a letter posted on the ILWU Canada website (see letter below).
This week, Hard Deck Logistics noted the movement of intermodal cargo to and from the ports of Vancouver on Class I Railroads, and as well observed vessels being offloaded and container traffic flowing (although slow as there is a queue of containers built up naturally).
This situation continues to create disruption to supply chains and is having a massive impact on the economy.
Hard Deck Logistics will continue to follow this situation.
Sincerely,
CEO Hard Deck Logistics
