Network Alert- ILWU Canada Ratification Voting Results

8/7/23

Hard Deck Logistics is following that the International Longshore & Warehouse Union Canada (ILWU Canada) has voted on the ratification of the tentative agreement; 74.66% are in favor of accepting the terms. The vote should mean an end to the uncertainty at British Columbia/West Coast Canada ports.

Over the last several weeks through the ups and downs of the disagreement between the Union and the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA), supply chains and economies have taken massive hits. While in recent weeks cargoes have been moving to and from the ports, including rail intermodal/mini-land bridge (MLB) cargoes, the shipment progress has been needless to say slow and irregular.

Rail companies have taken hits to their operations and profit and it is forecasted it may take many more weeks if not months for cargo flows to normalize.

Hard Deck Logistics is aware that many top shippers are still avoiding routing to Vancouver, Prince Rupert, and other West Coast Canada ports (including MLB routing) until the situation further normalizes. With that being said, multiple news sources, as well as Hard Deck Logistics, report that the ILWU Canada's announcement of the results of the ratification vote should mean an end to the uncertainty at West Coast Canada ports.

Sincerely,
