What is Double-Stack Rail Transportation?

Double-stack rail transportation refers to a method of moving shipping containers on railcars, where containers are stacked vertically on specially designed railcars. This technique allows for two layers of containers to be transported on a single railcar, effectively doubling the capacity compared to traditional single-stack rail transport, where containers are stacked only on the floor of the railcar.

The process of double-stack rail transportation involves using purpose-built railcars with increased clearance between the decks. The lower level accommodates the bottom row of containers, while the upper level holds the top row of containers, utilizing the vertical space efficiently. The containers are securely fastened and interlocked to ensure stability and safety during transit.
