How does planning well affect the timing of the transload process?
What is the best way to plan for transloading?
Initially, one would think that using transloads would be a time-consuming part of transportation. Of course, allowing more time is necessary and the first impression would suggest that transloading is not conducive to just-in-time service. However, this is not necessarily true.
Transloads with storage capabilities can allow shippers to position inventory close to their customers so that they can get quick deliveries. I handled steel coils near a major automobile manufacturing site and was often called for quick delivery of a coil to keep the line moving.
