What are the benefits of transloading? Why do companies decide to go this route? (BNSF)

BNSF (Spacing)

Rail is the most economical means to ship goods over land. BNSF hauls one ton of freight on one gallon of diesel fuel for approximately 500 miles. The cost-benefit of that is reflected in our customer’s bottom line.

Transloading acts as an extension of our rail network. This extension allows our customers with warehouses that are not rail-served to gain the efficiencies of rail without the expense of building the rail infrastructure. Once freight reaches our strategically-located hubs, our trucking partners complete last-mile delivery. Additionally, this provides flexibility for our customers’ storage capacity, sourcing short-haul delivery of inventory from multiple locations to a rail-served site.
