In northern climates, like we are, winters can take a serious toll on operations if we don’t prepare.
Switches freeze with ice and tracks get drifted over with snow preventing the Class I’s to service us. Locomotive slippage is an issue with heavy rains and snow. Wind is a prevailing factor when transloading over-dimensional products and also blowing away dry-bulk products. Sometimes equipment freezes and won't start on cold mornings.
We have learned how to mitigate these challenges over our 20 years of operation but mother nature still throws us curveballs.
